About Polva
Põlva is a small town in south-eastern Estonia. It lies in a region of lakes, forests and rolling hills, with Tartu about 50 kilometres north. The town has a quiet, rural character and a compact centre with older wooden houses and Soviet-era buildings. Visitors come for the peaceful atmosphere and outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling and nature watching, with protected areas and nature reserves nearby. Lake Põlva is a focal point for recreation in warmer months. The centre has shops, cafes, a museum, a cultural centre and the bus station. Põlva is reached by road, with regular buses from Tartu taking about an hour; Tartu has the nearest major railway station and airport. Within town most places are walkable, but a car or bicycle is recommended for the countryside.
