The classic views
Patkuli platform on Toompea faces north-northwest — in summer the sun sets over the port and the towers of the lower Old Town light up gold. Free, open 24/7, quieter than Kohtuotsa. Kohtuotsa itself is where every Instagram photo comes from, facing east so it doesn’t get the sunset directly but catches the reflection on the rooftops beautifully. Piiskopi platform is the third and least visited, facing west across Kalamaja — the actual sunset viewpoint.
The seafront
The sea wall between Linnahall and Noblessner is a straight 25-minute walk with unobstructed western views. Linnahall itself — the brutalist concrete concert hall from 1980 — is climbable and doubles as a sunset viewing terrace. Free. Further out, Pirita beach (tram 1 or 8) gives you sand and sea. In June the sun barely sets, so a walk here at 22:30 still has light.
With a drink or a sauna
Põhjala Tap Room in Noblessner has a west-facing terrace and 20 taps of Estonian craft beer ($6-8). Iglupark on the same harbour has floating saunas — book a 2-hour session ($28 per person, or $95 private for 4) and time your sea plunge for the exact moment the sun drops. Fotografiska's rooftop restaurant is closed to non-diners but the ground-floor terrace serves cocktails ($12) with a view over the Old Town wall.
